If a man is allowed to have more than one wife, then why does Islam prohibit a woman from having more than one husband?
Islam treats men and women as equal in worth and spiritual standing but acknowledges biological and physiological differences. Polyandry is prohibited primarily because it makes paternal identification impossible — a child's right to know both parents is paramount. Additionally, medical evidence shows that multiple sexual partners dramatically increase the risk of sexually transmitted diseases.
